Be.You.Tea

I love getting e-mails from Tera Warner. She has such a great personality and I love her webinars, articles and blogs.
Today I read an e-mail from her about what she called her Best Health Decision this past year! What a hook for an e-mail from a woman who loves health, raw foods, juicing and green smoothies! She talks to so many health, nutrition and beauty experts for her to offer what she thinks is her Best Health Decision - well, I was intrigued.
Rather than telling you myself, I will simply post her e-mail to me and the rest of us on her mailing list:

Morning, Happy Chick!

I've got some exciting news to share and have been holding
back until I could tell you, but it looks like it's all
coming together now, so YAY!

Secret's gonna be out.

But first...

I thought I'd share with you the *one thing* that has made
the biggest difference for me in improving my health,
well-being and getting rid of my unbearable late night
cravings for food in the last year!

It has a lot to do with my special announcement, so here it is:

We all know we're supposed to stay hydrated and eat a
nutrient-rich diet.

We all know juicing is great, but WHAT a pain in the butt to
clean that machine! (And then there's all the leftover
fiber to feel guilty about!) Honestly, I love juicing and I
love juice, but it's messy, expensive and time-consuming,
so most days, sadly, it just doesn't happen for me.

I've always been passionate about plant and herbs and wild
flowers and last summer I really started to experiment with
herbal infusions. We call them herbal "teas" but there's
not really any "tea" in there.

It's just aromatic and medicinal plants that we steep in hot
water. Doing so draws out the minerals and nutrients and
makes a very nourishing cocktail that is loaded in
health-boosting properties, hydrates like a son of a gun and
doesn't burden your digestive system.

It's so easy to do and cost pennies!

You can literally go into your backyard, or your local park
and pluck some pine needles to make a great beauty tea.

You can pick rose petals, dandelions, daisies, sunflowers,
nettles, oatstraw, dried fruits and berries and put in a
pinch of licorice root to sweeten it up!

It's the easiest thing you'll ever do:

Add water.
Wait.
Sip.
Smile.

No expensive equipment.
No messy clean up.
No waste! (In fact, you're going to be able to just gather
some of the things in your backyard for FREE and you'll
feel fabulous for doing it!)

Since we can't all go forage in the forest and pluck pine
needles in our spare time, I took the liberty of ordering a small
truckload of my favorite organic and wild-crafted herbal and
medicinal plants and have put them together in an amazing
combination for beauty.

It's called "be.you.tea" and we are getting it ready to
ship out soon!

Since the details are still being finalized, we're offering
a pre-release discount on our new "be.you.tea"!

We've packaged them in 250g bags (enough for about a pot a
day for an entire month!) If you pre-order it will only cost
$14.97. (That's about 50 cents a day for one of the
healthiest things you could do for yourself!)

http://www.bodyenlightenment.me/shop
(scroll down! It's the second item on the list!)

You will be SO amazed after only one month with the
difference you notice in your hair, skin, eyes, energy and
elimination.

If you want to save money and get on the healthy, herbal,
hydration bandwagon then click this link:

http://www.bodyenlightenment.me/shop

There are no fancy pages.

No pretty pictures.

No long explanations. When those are up, the price will be
up, too!

If all goes as planned we should be able to ship out
in the next two weeks!!

You can pre-order your be.you.tea here:

http://www.bodyenlightenment.me/shop

And for the first 20 people who place their order, I'll hook you up
with some of my secret herbal detox recipes for spring!

Love at tea time and all the time,

Tera

p.s.
The secret to health isn't really a secret at all,

The more I learn the more I realize how simple solutions really are.

Breathe.
Smile.
Laugh a lot.
Celebrate life.
Sit around and sip tea.

That's a health protocol I can handle.

That's right! Her best health decision was TEA or, correctly, Tisanes/Infusions. Wow!
This coming from a Raw Foodist Celebrity, and its Herbal Infusions! How exciting is that! I' know I'm thrilled to hear such news that not only does she love teas she's also loving it so much she's offering her favorites to her public. How cool!

Preparedness

With the shows on the tellie about preparedness or dooms-day-ers or whatever they are calling them now, I thought I would post some links on the subject of herbal or natural preparedness and survival.

Tansy at Fields of Tansy has several articles on how she and her family are preparing for the worst with herbal treatments. Her blog is the first I've seen that posts how she would treat dangerous viruses and dis-ease that people normally must go to a hospital or doctor for such as cholera and polio. These are issues that I've yet to see many preppers say they have solutions or treatments for and they could be a problem for those survivors of ... end of the world? Or whatever it is they are preparing for.

Herbal Healer Academy with my teacher Marijah McCain has a new correspondence course on survival. Now, this course won't give you the hands-on experience of going to one of the in-person courses that are popping up all over the country, but they could get you started. Right now, the school is offering the course (3 books, test and certificate) at 10% off!

I won't bother with posting my views on this topic as I don't want to turn this blog into a debate - but I will say that Hoping for the Best and Preparing for the Worst is not a bad idea.

A New Route

Talk about things falling into place!
I believe things happen for a reason. I also believe that if something is meant for me, if I am meant to take a path, and I accept this, then signals will be placed out for me to pick up or ignore.
I am picking up the signals!

As I've said before, I'm moving to Alaska - April 14 or 15th tentatively - and one of the reasons I am sooo excited about this move is the view Alaskans seem to have about herbalism, natural healing and organic or natural living. There are so many herbalists, naturopathic physicians, holistic healing centers, natural birthing centers, midwives, survivalists, wildcrafters, artists, etc just in the Anchorage and Fairbanks areas that I've seen online! My kind of people and places!

So I'm doing my research and thinking, how do I prepare myself for this? I wanna know everything about the local herbs, the gardens and farms, the local herb lore and the native way of healing.
Reading along, I feel like I'm beginning all over again.

I'm taking a break from Herbal Healer Academy lessons as I won't have an address for the school to send lessons to until we get moved, settled and get a P.O. Box. This gives me a break from that path a little bit and while I'm still going in the same direction, I'm deviating from the road onto a lil trail it seems. (I'm I using too many analogies and metaphors?)

While looking at all this information I ran into Tansy and her blog, Field of Tansy, and some blog posts she did called A Life's Journey to Become an Herbalist. Intrigued, I read on and found that the blog posts stemmed form an article by Gail Faith Edwards that discusses the 10-fold path to Master Herbalism.

I was INSPIRED!
This was exactly what I needed in my desire to learn about Alaska-based herbalism.
Taking a leaf out of Tansy's book...er...blog, I'm going to follow the steps outlined by her and Gail and do a year of re-acquainting myself with herbalism.

As I was thinking about this, I signed onto the blog and saw a post by Rosalee de la Foret on How to Choose an Herbal School! How fortuitous! I read it and simply felt I had hit another sign post saying "exit ramp ahead" "turn here" and follow this little dirt trail in your road to herbalism.

While I am taking this trail I do plan to merge back into the path I am taking now with the Herbal Healer Academy for my herbalism certification.
I don't think that this new step will at all be a disadvantage in my studies but a side self-taught course in life and herbs. I think it will be of benefit ^_^

My first step and more links will be available in my next post...

Herbal Webinar

If you missed the webinar with Kiva Rose on Folk herbs, you can listen to the replay until the 22 here!
After the 22nd the webinar replay will only be available to HerbMentor members.

I was so excited about this webinar. Kiva Rose is a great inspiration (for me she's right up there with Susun Weed). I grabbed a mug (or 2) of tea, snuggled my cat, and had my notebook and pen ready for notes (which were unnecessary since the webinar has pdf notes available for download). I loved the recipes for evening primrose and am excited about seeing what varieties of this herb are available in my area (and planning on dehydrating some with red raspberry leaf for a uterin tonic).

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Congrats

I am sooooo lame. I haven't blogged through February and I totally forgot to post my congrats for the Best of Raw winners (which everyone was a winner for being so cool as to create the media, businesses, foods, etc and just being awesome people...I know...how corny) and the Winners of the Living Light Hot Raw Chef Contest (actually my congrats for this was on the EcoGoth blog).

I wanted to especially congratulate Matt Monarch and Angela Stokes-Monarch for their high score votes all through the co-opetition. Their blogs were the top two, their radio show number 1, their t.v. show on YouTube came second, and their store was NUMBER 1! Wooh-hoo! I personally love The Raw Food World and order a few of my own products there (both for myself and for EcoGoth). Maybe they'll be up for another Best of Raw catagory, best retreat? I love seeing all the work they do on their property in Vilcabamba, Ecuadore.

I also wanted to send out my love to Kevin and Annamarie Gianni. I love their show and totally voted on Kevin Gianni as top raw educator because his book High Raw inspired me so greatly that I created EcoGoth and worked on my non-fiction writing more. The Renegade Health Show is great and encourages viewers not only to incorporate more raw foods into their life but also informs them that its not just about what you eat but also about what you do. The Giannis also host a number of webinars, interviews, etc. I loved the Great Health Debate that went on in February. Be sure to check them out.

Sorry I'm kind of playing favorites today on the blog. Everyone else on the Best of Raw competition is awesome of course. I mention The Raw Food World and Renegade Health couples only because they have had the most impact on me over the last year as I slowly reform my life and my health. Thanks.

Congrats also goes to Amber Shea Ford who won the Hot Raw Chef contest through Living Light. I thought she was adorable and her recipe so easy to transfer from raw gormet how to show into our own kitchens. See my full thoughts and congrats on the EcoGoth Blog.

The Naturopathic Difference

I got my cd, The Naturopathic Difference, from Herbal Healer Academy in the mail today!
I've been waiting for the cd for a little while now so I was pretty excited when I checked the mail today.

My fiance and I listened to the cd in the car (new car!!!) while running errands this morning. I'm not sure what was more interesting, that Marijah McCain is a bit of a firecracker or that my fiance was just as into listening to McCain explain the whys and hows of her becoming a naturopath as I was.

The cd reinforced a lot of what I learned in my first lesson of my Herbalism course, including information about Essiac.

I'm looking forward to my future lessons and cds even more so now! The cds can be bought without taking any of the courses and I definately recommend them as they give a passionate point of view on natural healing along with some facts everyone should be exposed to.

The Essiac Cure for Cancer

Getting the information about Essiac out to the public has weighed on my heart ever since I read an interview with Dr. Gary Glum sent to be from Marijah McCain from Herbal Healer Academy as part of my herbalism lesson 1.

Here is the 2 part article I wrote for Suite 101:
Part1 http://herbalmedicine.suite101.com/article.cfm/the-essiac-cure-for-cancer-pt-1
Part 2 http://herbalmedicine.suite101.com/article.cfm/the-essiac-cure-for-cancer-pt2

Here is also a video on how to make Essiac that I found very helpful followed by Part 3 of a documentary done on Rene Caisse and Essiac.

"The medical profession will never let you do this to us."

Please read and watch and comment.

Homeopathic Doctors (and their differences)

As I am sure you all have seen my How to Choose an Herbalist article on Suite 101, I also wanted to draw attention to another Suite article
Find Homeopathic Doctors, Natural Health and Homeopathic Healing by Susan Laverie.
I found it to be very informative on how to choose a qualified homeopath and to know who you're dealing with as far as natural healers and their initials.

I wanted to show this article for the same reason I wrote my aricle, in these times of uncertainty, it is important to find health practitioners (allopathic and alternative) that you can trust.

The Raw Debate!!!

This is a wonderful debate between Brigitte Mars and Susun Weed, both are held in high esteem among natural living and healing promoters.
This is a 6 part program and above is #5. I recommend that you watch all 6, I simply wanted to share a piece of it.

My question to my readers!
How do you feel about raw after watching this video?

Tom's of Maine

So my fiance and I started to look into natural personal care products after the Coptic conference where we learned about a few things that were bad for us, specifically Flouride like that found in toothpaste.
For those of you that don't know, Flouride builds a crust around the pinneal gland in the brain. The pinneal gland controls the pituitary gland which in turn effects the thyroid...so by enameling the pinneal you can cause thyroid problems and many other yucky things.

I was a little worried about flouride poisoning my body because after years of intensive dental care, I was drinking flouride water a lot, not to mention its in tap water and using flouride toothpaste.

So when my man and I went grocery shopping for things like toilet paper and shampoo, we looked to see what non-flouride toothpaste there were to be had and found Tom's of Maine flouride free natural toothpaste!
It's a little more expensive than Crest or the other brands, but when you're not buying it every day or week and it's for your health, the few extra bucks don't seem like a lot.

I've tried it for about 2 months now and love it. The peppermint flavor seems to last longer than my last brands of toothpaste and my teeth are actually a little whiter (but this could be a combo of the toothpaste and that I've stopped drinking coffee).

This last shopping trip, I bought Tom's of Maine natural deodorant in Citrus. Its a roller bottle kind so its a little wetter than the Axe we've been using.

Why have I been using Axe (and yes, I am a female)
Well, some time last year I had a bad allergic reaction to both Secret and Suave deodorants. I broke out in red bumps and welts on my underarms and inner legs where I had used the deodorant to help keep my thighs from sticking when I wore a skirt (a little trick for us voluptuous types).
My skin felt irritated and I looked to see the reaction and stopped using those two brands immediately. So I had to find another alternative and started using my fiance's deodorant, Axe. When I had no break outs it became my norm and the smell isn't bad and noone seemed to notice I smell a little like my man...

Anyways, after that anecdote...
Tom's deodorant is awesome too! I've worn it at work where I'm in a sweat box all day running around and I have found that I'm not stinky nor is there any strong citrus odor, which is cool. I also have less shaving bumps when I use it after shaving.

So, to sum it all up, try out Tom's deodorant and toothpaste! I haven't tried their mouthwash, soap, or floss yet but plan to.
Their site is also cool, sorta gives their ethics in business and why they do what they do, which they do well.

Two Trees and Healing

Chief Two Trees is a well kown healer in the Appalachian region and to any reader of Raymon Grace's books.
I had not heard of him until tonight as I sat talking with my soon-to-be mother-in-law about herbal healing.
Chief Two Trees treated my fiance and his sister as children when they were suffering from worms and allopathic doctors of the area could/would not help. Their mother took them to Two Trees who knew immediately what the problem was as soon as he set eyes on her two children.
He prescribed a list of remedies including Sorbic Acid and Swedish Bitters. Within days, both my fiance and his sister were worm free.

Two Trees also treated the family for shingles with a remedy involving urine that I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to try but worked to cure the ailment within hours.

I am told that there might be the startings of a book by Two Trees that was never finished due to his death in 1995. I'll be checking with the local college to see if they have any more information on this work.

The point of this post is that there are many people who have been treated with natural remedies and haven't thought much of it (my fiance never even thought to mention the above to me before). I am grateful to my mother-in-law-to-be for having written down these remedies and letting me copy them into my own journal for later research and use (hopefully I won't ever need to use them myself).

"Herbalism Doesn't Work"

I hear a lot of people tell me that herbalism and natural remedies simply do not work. (Actually, I hear more that it is all simply Hippie BS).
When I hear this, I work to understand why they believe this.
For many, it is simply the faithful belief in allopathic or Western medicine. It's what they were raised with (doctor's offices, Nyquil and aspirin). This breaks my heart in that I see it as a complete separation not only from healthy living but from the earth (which we are the stewards of).
Others have tried herbal remedies and feel that these treatments did not work.

Herbs on the Hudson posted an article by Marguerite Dunne, MA:
Six Reasons Why Herbal Remedies Fail.

I won't post the whole article, you can find it by clicking the link above.
I do want to point out a few key points in the article that I feel are very important.

Firstly, when taking an herbal treatment, be sure to FOLLOW THROUGH! Like antibiotics, herbal remedies need to be taken until the sickness is past or the herbalist tells you to stop.
Also, herbs are not meant for instant response. Western medicine feeds on our desire for instant gratifications. By suppressing hte symtpoms, we feel like we are better, but in reality we are suppressing our body's healing ability.

Second, just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a group to change a lifestyle. If a person is trying to become healthy through herbalism and recieves negative responses from their loves ones, they will be hindered in their path and may not heal.
Encourage your loved ones. If what they are doing is for betterment and health, then dont' hinder their research and growth.
(I'd like to take this moment to thank my family, fiance, and friends for their support. Love you all.)

Third, many people make the mistake of either not seeking medical help (allopathic or naturpopathic) or not giving their medical professional the whole truth of the problem.
Do Not treat a serious condition without medical advice. Seek a doctor or a natural healer of your choice. Be sure in both instances to find someone of good reputations and who you can trust.
Tell them the whole of the problem. Most medical professionals have heard it all and will not blush at what you have to tell them. Besides, without knowing the problem, the cannot help you to the full extent of their abilities.
Also, if you are seeing both a alternative healer and a allopathic doctor, be sure they both know about the other and what you are doing as far as treatment. Some herbs will effect other medicines and visa versa. Sometimes the combination can make the condition worse or even kill.

There's my rant for the day.
I guess the point is be educated and safe. Research everything including your doctor. Also, give support to your loved ones.

Love and Light,
Happy Chick
