Be.You.Tea

I love getting e-mails from Tera Warner. She has such a great personality and I love her webinars, articles and blogs.
Today I read an e-mail from her about what she called her Best Health Decision this past year! What a hook for an e-mail from a woman who loves health, raw foods, juicing and green smoothies! She talks to so many health, nutrition and beauty experts for her to offer what she thinks is her Best Health Decision - well, I was intrigued.
Rather than telling you myself, I will simply post her e-mail to me and the rest of us on her mailing list:

Morning, Happy Chick!

I've got some exciting news to share and have been holding
back until I could tell you, but it looks like it's all
coming together now, so YAY!

Secret's gonna be out.

But first...

I thought I'd share with you the *one thing* that has made
the biggest difference for me in improving my health,
well-being and getting rid of my unbearable late night
cravings for food in the last year!

It has a lot to do with my special announcement, so here it is:

We all know we're supposed to stay hydrated and eat a
nutrient-rich diet.

We all know juicing is great, but WHAT a pain in the butt to
clean that machine! (And then there's all the leftover
fiber to feel guilty about!) Honestly, I love juicing and I
love juice, but it's messy, expensive and time-consuming,
so most days, sadly, it just doesn't happen for me.

I've always been passionate about plant and herbs and wild
flowers and last summer I really started to experiment with
herbal infusions. We call them herbal "teas" but there's
not really any "tea" in there.

It's just aromatic and medicinal plants that we steep in hot
water. Doing so draws out the minerals and nutrients and
makes a very nourishing cocktail that is loaded in
health-boosting properties, hydrates like a son of a gun and
doesn't burden your digestive system.

It's so easy to do and cost pennies!

You can literally go into your backyard, or your local park
and pluck some pine needles to make a great beauty tea.

You can pick rose petals, dandelions, daisies, sunflowers,
nettles, oatstraw, dried fruits and berries and put in a
pinch of licorice root to sweeten it up!

It's the easiest thing you'll ever do:

Add water.
Wait.
Sip.
Smile.

No expensive equipment.
No messy clean up.
No waste! (In fact, you're going to be able to just gather
some of the things in your backyard for FREE and you'll
feel fabulous for doing it!)

Since we can't all go forage in the forest and pluck pine
needles in our spare time, I took the liberty of ordering a small
truckload of my favorite organic and wild-crafted herbal and
medicinal plants and have put them together in an amazing
combination for beauty.

It's called "be.you.tea" and we are getting it ready to
ship out soon!

Since the details are still being finalized, we're offering
a pre-release discount on our new "be.you.tea"!

We've packaged them in 250g bags (enough for about a pot a
day for an entire month!) If you pre-order it will only cost
$14.97. (That's about 50 cents a day for one of the
healthiest things you could do for yourself!)

(scroll down! It's the second item on the list!)

You will be SO amazed after only one month with the
difference you notice in your hair, skin, eyes, energy and
elimination.

hydration bandwagon then click this link:

If all goes as planned we should be able to ship out
in the next two weeks!!

You can pre-order your be.you.tea here:

And for the first 20 people who place their order, I'll hook you up
with some of my secret herbal detox recipes for spring!

Love at tea time and all the time,

Tera

p.s.
The secret to health isn't really a secret at all,

The more I learn the more I realize how simple solutions really are.

Breathe.
Smile.
Laugh a lot.
Celebrate life.
Sit around and sip tea.

That's a health protocol I can handle.

That's right! Her best health decision was TEA or, correctly, Tisanes/Infusions. Wow!
This coming from a Raw Foodist Celebrity, and its Herbal Infusions! How exciting is that! I' know I'm thrilled to hear such news that not only does she love teas she's also loving it so much she's offering her favorites to her public. How cool!

Chaga!

I've been looking at herbs I can wildcraft or grow easily in Alaska and I found a video on gathering or hunting CHAGA in Alaska! Chaga is a superfood mushroom that people like David Wolfe, Daniel Vitalis, etc all RAVE about and I now know where to find it, how to decoct it and how to make yummers out of it ^_^

To decoct chaga or make a chaga tea simply rinse it off, break it into nuggets or chunks, throw in a pot with some spring water or glacier water, bring to boil, let simmer 15-30 minutes, then pour off the yummy decoction or tea. Simple! This tea can be added to green smoothies, almond milk, or drunk straight.

Busy Spring Day

Such a busy day. I'm making a bunch of stuff for the bathroom and burning up as we are trying to only use the air conditioning in the hottest part of the day and simply leave the windows open and fans on during the morning and afternoon. To refresh I've been drinking an infusion from one of the herbs in the garden!

Spearmint!
This stuff grows rampant in my husband's grandmother's garden and is trying to take over the space where her ferns are at. Normally she just has my hubs or his step-dad mow it down (they come in smelling like grass and mint and it smells great but they're not big fans of it) OR I come down and pick a ton of it and whatever I don't drink in the next day or so I can dehydrate it for later. This tea (below) was so refreshing! Just what I needed after being so hot today. My fingers smelled like mint for hours after I got done picking too, which was an added bonus ^_^

For the bathroom I've been making my witch hazel and tea tree oil combo that I use on everything from piercings to acne to bug bites. I love it and it makes a great toner as well when its diluted with fresh water or hydrosol. I've also been making my shampoo...I actually made enough for me and my darling friend Fen and a sampler for my friend Alysheba. Fun stuff!

Super Simple Shampoo

I just want everyone to know how easy it is to make your own shampoo.
Sick and tired of conventional shampoos that are filled with petroleum based fragrance and sodium laurel sulfate that strips my hair, I decided to make my own.

What you will need:
1 16 ox bottle (trya dn old shampoo bottle)
16 oz of castille soap
16 oz of hot water
1-2 tea bags of favorite smelling tea
1 mug and a funnel or small-ish glass pitcher with a spout

Split the castille soap between the original bottle and the empty bottle (this means 8 oz in each bottle for you math whizs out there).
Steep tea bag(s) in hot water in the mug or pitcher for at least 20 minutes covered.
Take out the bag(s) and pour the tea over the castille soap...
Guess what! Thats It!
Easy right?

I used unscented castille soap. Warning, check the bottle because castille soap comes in a variety of scents like tea tree, eucalyptus, peppermint and rose. If you like these scents, go for it.
I used Celestial Seasonings' Tension Tamer tea and a few drops each fennel and tea tree essential oils. This made an herbaceous smelling shampoo I am excited to use!

Cost?
I already have th tea and the essential oils so I'm not sure really how to factor those into the mix.
Castille soap from the local co-op was $7.48 after tax. So, really, for organic hand-made shampoo, this was super cheap, costing about the same as 2 bottles of the chemical-laden, cheap stuff from the grocery.

Happy 10-10-10

One last post before I head off and face the week,

Happy 10-10-10, this is an amazing month, what is it, 5 fridays, saturdays and sundays in the month? Plus its beautiful autumn and Halloween is coming, which is enough to be excited enough in itself right?

Just a little bit of what's going on that I'm into right now,

Raw Mom Cooked Dad started today with an interview with Alissa Cohen. Check it out and listen in.

I'm going to start doing a few recipes here and there with pictures. I feel like eating right is important and I hate just showing videos and recipes without doing it myself so I want to do this for me and for you. I also want to invite you to send me your recipes too!
With that said I am going to keep in the rule of KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. Don't expect anything flamboyant or expensive from this chic, I'm broke haha.

For my first recipe...
Here's the tea I've been drinking about every morning after I drink some water and have a teaspoon of honey. Its also what I drink when I want something cold and refreshing but don't necessarily want to reach for a bottle of water or some almond milk.

I have a small pitcher i put everything in (I think it's 1 1/2 liter to 2 liters) so all the ingredients are brewed for it. Increase or decrease the measurements by that.

Ingredients
3 tea bags (I've been using Private Selection's Jasmine green and black tea)
1 large piece of candied ginger, torn.
2 tbsp raw honey
water

I simmer the tea bags in a small pot of water (about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water) on the stove until the water is a brown color then I take the pot off the heat and let the bags steep for 15 minutes.
Remove the bags, squeezing off excess tea into the pot.

In a pitcher (or whatever container you will be putting the tea in) add the honey and ginger.
Pour the hot tea over the honey and bits of torn ginger and stir. The heat should dissolve the honey and the water puff up the ginger a bit.
Add water to this until full, stir again.

Refrigerate and enjoy ^_^

Alternative or additional ingredients you might enjoy:

Lemon goes well with ginger and they both aid digestion.
Stevia, or other low glycemic, aspartame-free sweetener.
Mint
Raw ginger, if you prefer it over candied.
Slices of orange, lemon or grapefruit
Rose water

Other teas are good too, especially when you're cutting out caffeine and don't want a black tea or a black tea blend. I personally love raspberry leaf tea.

Product Review: Traditional Medicinals Tea

I recently bought a box of Traditional Medicinals Raspberry Leaf tea at my local supermarket.

I've read a lot about Raspberry Leaf in my studies on natural women's health. This herb is wonderful for women no matter if they've just started puberty or are in the final stages of menopause. A tonic for the uterus, raspberry leaf can be used regularly during pregnancy and nursing.

According to Marijah McCain of Herbal Healer Academy, raspberry leaf contains fragrine, an alkaloid that tones the pelvic muscles (including the uterus). Vitamins and minerals found in raspberry leaf tea are vitamin C, E, A, and B complex, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium.
McCain also says that drinking raspberry leaf tea during pregnancy can prevent miscarriage, hemorrhage and morning sickness. She also says the tea can reduce pain during and after birth because of its muscle toning ability.

Now, I'm not drinking the tea for its pregnancy related benefits, raspberry leaf tea also helps with menstruation by regulating periods and relieving cramps.

Traditional Medicinals Raspberry Leaf Tea is delicious and reminds me of a herbacious black tea. I drink it with just a little bit of sweetener and I've tried it with a bit of milk and with a bit of almond milk but have found these to be unecessary.
I chose the Traditional Medicinals brand not only because it was the only one in the isle selling raspberry leaf by itself, but also because their company uses certified organic, pharmacoepial grade plants. Traditional Medicinals also uses a lot of green energy and recently became the largest solar powered business in the country.

Here's a video from Naturally Savvy about Traditional Medicinals. I think the hosts are a little corny but it has a lot of good information about the company.

Tea, Tea, Oh Beautiful Tea!

I've mentioned tea in my Happiness blog:
Would You Like a Spot of Tea?

LearningHerbs.com has a series of herbal lessons on YouTube.com
Below is their Making Tea video:

I cannot express how much I love tea and how much healthier tea is over sodas, coffee, sugary juices, etc.

Some tea companies I adore:

Sweet Leaf Tea
www.sweetleaftea.com
Sweet Leaf has a variety of ORGANIC cold teas that can be found at the local gas station or Kroger. My personal favorite is their Mint & Honey Green Tea and their Citrus Green Tea. All of their teas have a clean, refreshing taste without too much sugar and no aftertaste!

Yogi Organic Teas
www.yogiproducts.com
Check out their Discover Your Perfect Tea page that suggests teas by Mood, Flavor and Purpose! They have a variety of Chai tea, which I find very yummy as well as teas that aid in a variety of daily problems from respiratory issues to PMS!
